[Collaboration] Exerz and The Eternal Flight

[Collaboration] Exerz and The Eternal Flight

In this seventh collaboration, I am pleased to present Exerz, arriving swiftly and majestically like the flight of an eagle.

With this collaboration with Exerz, I venture into a realm that expands the boundaries of artistic expression: painting on large-format canvases—or at least, what I consider to be large-format. While I have previously painted on canvases measuring 90x120 cm and 90x150 cm, this is the first 80x100 cm canvas I have received. To me, this size represents a threshold between medium and large canvases. I have also worked on 60x90 cm canvases, where I felt somewhat restricted. With Exerz's 80x100 cm canvas, I can soar beyond limits and glide through the skies with freedom, expanding my vision and unleashing my imagination without constraints. Painting on such a spacious surface is like taking flight—an absolute act of liberation, where creativity flourishes without barriers.

An ode to freedom in painting

From the very first stroke, the difference is palpable—it feels entirely distinct. My hand moves more freely, and with my style—where I favor bold, powerful, and energetic strokes—having more space is a true advantage. With canvases this size, I no longer feel the need for restraint.

The 80x100 cm size holds a special virtue: it is not overwhelmingly large, yet it is big enough to achieve the sense of creative expansion. It is also easy to transport and store; it does not take up excessive space, yet it still commands attention and presence. Additionally, it is lighter and more manageable than larger formats, making the painting process much more enjoyable. For example, painting on a 90x150 cm canvas felt overwhelming for me—even though I only tried it once. The 80x100 cm format, however, offers nearly the same benefits while remaining more comfortable to work with.

And speaking of artistic freedom, I want to reflect on the painting itself. This piece captures a pivotal moment in the life of a golden eagle—either its ascent or descent onto a falconry perch, a structure that, interestingly enough, mirrors the rectangular shape of the canvas. The eagle’s majestic motion symbolizes freedom, raw power, and mastery of space. Its flight—strong and unwavering—reminds us of the force behind creative impulses and the ability to transcend established limits. Every feather, shadow, and glimmer of light in the painting reinforces the sense of dynamism and conquest of the aerial realm. To further enhance the sensation of movement, flight, and spatial dominance, I incorporated a rich foundation of textures into the canvas.

The eagle is a fantastic emblem of freedom, making it a perfect subject for this collaboration. Moreover, flight has always been a fundamental concept in my life. If I could possess a superpower, it would undoubtedly be the ability to fly—not just for the physical experience but for the profound meaning behind it: the ability to rise above everything, gain new perspectives, move without restrictions, and reach wherever I desire, high and limitless. And, of course, to enjoy the journey (unlike those who would prefer teleportation instead).

I also cherish dreams of flying—it is a recurring theme in my subconscious world, manifesting in various ways (soaring with my body, with wings, on a kite, atop an animal, levitating, etc.). Whenever I experience such dreams, I wake with a deep sense of fulfillment and serenity.

Furthermore, flight is a recurring motif in films I adore, particularly those by Studio Ghibli. From the wind that propels the protagonists forward to the breathtaking expanses of sky that evoke a sense of adventure, flying is synonymous with freedom, imagination, and bravery. It also symbolizes personal growth, independence, and embarking on one's own journey. I translate this very sentiment into the act of painting in larger formats, where every brushstroke becomes a step in the grand voyage that is life and the adventures we embark upon.

The boundless canvas

A larger canvas grants a unique approach to creation. There are no strict limitations—only an open invitation to experiment, engage with space, and let the artwork breathe on a greater scale, unlocking broader possibilities.

One detail worth highlighting is the high quality of these canvases. The cotton fabric feels pleasant, the wooden frame is sturdy and well-crafted, and I particularly appreciate the thick 3.2 cm edges. For me, it is important that the canvas has some weight—a sense of solid presence that corresponds appropriately to its size.

In this collaboration, Exerz kindly sent me four of their canvases. As I mentioned earlier, this size suits my creative needs exceptionally well. Yet, just as an eagle adapts to the wind to perfect its flight, an artist also adapts to the canvas to refine their expression. I find a strong synergy in this relationship. Additionally, I believe Exerz’s canvases offer excellent quality at an affordable price—especially for those looking to explore larger formats for the first time.

Art and nature converge in this piece, a connection that becomes even more significant when considering the symbolism of the golden eagle. Protecting these species and ensuring their continued flight in the skies is a responsibility we must uphold. Freedom is not only a right but a vital condition for the survival of all living beings. As artists, dreamers, and admirers of beauty, we must celebrate and safeguard these symbols of strength and autonomy.

The eternal flight

This creative process has been more than just an exploration of large canvases—it has been a reminder of the power of freedom, both in art and in life. The feeling of spreading one’s wings and soaring into the vastness of the sky is something everyone should experience—whether through art, dreams, or simply by appreciating the world around them.

Painting on a grand scale is a way to expand one’s vision, embrace greater ambitions, and challenge the boundaries of personal creativity. Like an eagle in ascent, the artist propels themselves toward new horizons, exploring the unknown with the confidence that, at the end of the flight, there is always new territory waiting to be discovered.

I want to thank Exerz for allowing me to experience these new sensations through their 80x100 cm canvases—a size that has truly resonated with me. It has become a favorite format for my work, offering comfort and creative freedom. After all, there is nothing more essential to the artistic process than feeling at ease while creating.
