[Collaboration] Liberso and The Cosmic Harvest

In this sixth collaboration with Starboyjavi, I am thrilled to present Bodega Liberso, arriving from the far reaches of space. Every artistic collaboration I undertake has its own soul, an essence born from the fusion between my pictorial expression and the universe that each winery constructs through its wines. This time, Bodega Liberso has taken me on a journey that transcends the earthly realm. From the very first moment, its philosophy of exploration captivated me, referencing destiny and the unknown, pushing me to imagine a scenario where wine becomes discovery, adventure, and a leap into the void in pursuit of the new—the mysterious.

Exploring a Universe of Sensations

Art and wine share the same quest: the exploration of emotions, stories, and perceptions. Taking this spirit as my starting point, I sought to create a piece that captures the essence of adventure and uncertainty, of fearless and unapologetic discovery—all set within the theme of the universe, the cosmos, outer space, galaxies, the solar system… that vast world beyond Earth that has fascinated me since childhood. It is paradoxical, really, because I am not much of a traveler.

In this work, you can observe the astronaut, the hallmark of Liberso and the protagonist of its label, seen from a bird’s-eye view. This brave astronaut is in the midst of a cosmic harvest, gathering grapes on an unknown planet—the grape planet. With each cluster he collects, his journey continues, exploring the unexplored and pushing the boundaries of the terrestrial.

Thus, the astronaut represents infinite curiosity, the human need to venture beyond. In this work, I wanted to reinterpret him from a different perspective—from above, as if we were suspended in the same orbit, witnessing his cosmic harvest, his arduous labor that could very well become a celestial odyssey.

His presence in the painting is not just that of an explorer, but that of a gatherer—someone who takes what the universe offers and transforms it into something new. Before him is not rock, nor gas, nor ice, but a grape, the very fruit of the Earth, turned into a celestial body. This astronaut is not in Mars or on a distant satellite; he stands before the raw material of wine, in a landscape where harvesting and exploration merge into a single act.

The colors of the painting play with the dichotomy between the cosmic and the earthly. Deep shades of blues and blacks create a sense of immensity, of empty space, of the unknown. In contrast, the grape carries hues of purples, evoking the essence of wine itself. The brushstrokes suggest movement, as if the astronaut—dressed in shades of gray and white—were actively floating and harvesting in a weightless environment.

The Choice of a Multi-Panel Composition

The decision to create this piece as a multi-panel artwork was intentional. Splitting the composition into two panels allows for a more dynamic visual narrative, where the viewer’s gaze is not confined to a single focal point but moves between them, discovering details as if embarking on an interstellar journey. This fragmentation mirrors the vastness of the cosmos, reminding us that exploration never happens in a single instant or place—it is an ongoing process of discovery. The division between the panels amplifies the sense of motion, as if the astronaut were traveling through space, moving toward his next encounter with the unknown.

This piece is more than a tribute to Liberso’s identity; it is a reminder that the act of creation—whether in art or winemaking—is, at its core, a continuous exploration. In this sense, the artwork also pays homage to the concept of expansion, not only in the abstract sense of the universe but in how viticulture connects cycles, territories, and traditions. Each grape cluster the astronaut harvests is a seed of new possibilities, a bridge between the earthly and the cosmic, as if the vine could extend its roots beyond the soil and reach into infinity.

The Cosmic Harvest Takes Shape

Bodega Liberso sent me a fantastic case containing five of their wines, along with a few extra surprises. Receiving this case felt like unfolding a map to the unexpected, and truthfully, I wasn’t expecting it. Discovering its contents was a delight, a gesture that made a difference. It wasn’t just about the wines—it was an invitation to explore and experiment. Inside the package, I found a corkscrew and a booklet with technical notes, a detail that made me feel like this journey went beyond the glass.

Now, I’ll share my experience with Liberso’s white wines—an impact that reached deep into my being. As I always say, this is a personal, subjective opinion, and it does not necessarily align with the technical descriptions of the products. This is not an expert tasting or analysis—I am simply sharing how they made me feel.

Liberso Skin Contact

Liberso Skin Contact caught me off guard from the very first sip. At first, it puzzled me, but as I continued, something about it pulled me in—almost like falling into a black hole. Lately, black holes and I haven’t had the best relationship; I’ve met a few people who turned out to be just like them—absorbing energy, pulling me into their gravity until I disappeared into nothingness. Fortunately, this Verdejo captivates in a good way, drawing me in and making me wonder what lies on the other side. It’s a sensation that is difficult to express or fully define, but Liberso has encapsulated it beautifully in its essence.

With a deep golden hue, at times appearing almost orange, and an enveloping texture, this 100% Verdejo wine embodies the journey through that black hole—but with a happy resolution, reassuring you that you’ll emerge on the other side. Perhaps it’s more of a white hole than a black one. That’s the experience it leaves on the palate—a ride through emotion, tension, and ultimate relief, with a smooth and gratifying finish after an adventure well lived. I particularly noticed hints of vanilla, one of my favorite spices.

Liberso Curioso Verdejo

Liberso Curioso Verdejo presents a multi-dimensional experience, not limited to a single bottle but spread across four distinct vintages—2016, 2017, 2018, and 2021. Each vintage varies in key elements: the number of wines used in the blend, the origin of the grapes, and the length and method of aging, among others. These subtle differences define the evolution of Curioso Verdejo over time, making each bottle an individual journey while still part of a shared cosmic trajectory.

However, despite their nuances, they share a common essence, an unmistakable identity that carries through each vintage, like celestial bodies orbiting the same gravitational center. Liberso Curioso Verdejo told a different story from Liberso Skin Contact—a more serene, refined, peaceful voyage. From the first sip, their elegance captivated me, like being aboard a luxury space cruise, gazing at the celestial scenery, immersed in the dark expanse of the universe, drifting among dark matter. These Verdejos are fresh and vibrant, bringing light to the void, carrying me from star to star, navigating its orbit layer by layer.

Each bottle it’s a white wine crafted from a blend of different Verdejos that invites me to sit back, look into the infinite, and immerse myself in the details, piecing together something truly unique. As I drank, I felt like I was advancing on a cosmic journey, gliding through space aboard a vessel with a polished golden fuselage, an intricate engine, and a high aromatic intensity, with spiced nuances that regulate themselves as the flavor unfolds.

Discovering, Exploring, and Feeling with Liberso

The creation of this artwork with Liberso has been an intergalactic journey in itself. From the first sketch to the final brushstroke, each detail has come together like a forming star, accumulating matter and energy until it becomes a celestial body with its own identity. It hasn’t just been an artistic process—it has been a sensory expedition, a leap across dimensions where wine becomes a vessel that transports us beyond the familiar, with Liberso as the space station, and each sip, an airlock to the unknown.

I have truly enjoyed this experience, thanks to Liberso. Because in the end, the greatest pleasure in wine is not circling the same planetary systems forever (though we can certainly do so aboard our stellar cruise), but daring to traverse wormholes that lead us to unexpected dimensions. Liberso challenges us to leave behind what is known, to launch ourselves into the unknown, confident that somewhere within the cosmic expanse of flavors, a new experience awaits—ready to transform our perception.
